In 2009, writer and cultural commentator Bonnie Greer  was invited to appear on the political discussion programme Question Time alongside Nick Griffin, leader of the British National Party.

The BBC’s decision to transmit the programme, and Ms Greer’s decision to appear on it, provoked a storm of discussion.

Now, in collaboration with composer Errollyn Wallen, Ms Greer has written the libretto for a new “docu-opera”, Yes, which stems from her own experiences and from the many public and private responses to the event.

The piece is a dramatic reflection of the national debate on democracy, free speech and immigration ignited by the programme, and deals with opinions voiced in the 10 days leading up to the broadcast.

• Directed by John Lloyd-Davies, head of opera development at The Royal Opera House, Yes premieres at Linbury Studio Theatre on November 22 at 7.45pm and runs until November 26. Call the box office on 020 7304 4000.
